Kharaz means beads. Beads of stone and faience have been strung in Nubia since the kingdom of Kerma. This one strings natural turquoise between stations of 18-karat gold set with diamonds, with a small open lotus of 18-karat gold hanging from one of them. Strung on a fine elastic, it slips over the hand.
